Willie Nelson To Release Ray Price Tribute Album

I’ll admit it: I am an absolute fan when it comes to the music of Willie Nelson and the late, great Ray Price. Sadly, Ray passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2013. Just 2 months before he left us, Ray finished recording his breathtakingly beautiful final album, Beauty Is… Now, rollingstone.com is reporting that Ray’s one-time bass player and lifelong friend, Willie Nelson, has recorded an album of Ray Price songs. The online article includes a sneak preview, behind-the-scenes look at the recording of what will no doubt be a Grammy-nominated album.

Willie enlisted the help of legendary record producer (and fellow Country Music Hall of Fame member) Fred Foster to helm the recording sessions. Foster was also the producer of Beauty Is… Also included on many of the tracks are the Nashville “super group,” the Time Jumpers, whose members include yet another Hall of Famer, Vince Gill. This album shows the incredible range of Ray Price’s music, from his the classic shuffle beat the became known as the “Ray Price Shuffle,” to his later, sophisticated recordings that featured lush string sections.

The cover artwork is even a throwback to the way many of Ray’s classic Columbia Records albums looked in the 1960’s. If you’re a serious Country music fan, this needs to be in your collection when it hits the stores on September 16th! Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!
